If you have read my book, Memoirs of the Bathtub Psychic, The True Story of a Clairvoyant and Her Dogs, then you are familiar with how I started to create hand painted collars and leashes. My first dog was a female Newfoundland. Finding lovely collars in her size was a challenge. Most larger sizes had an army pattern or spikes in it. no rhinestones for Sophie I'm afraid! So the short of it is that I started making my own. It was a challenge to not only get the paints to stay on the nylon but to look smooth and defined. Over the first year I found solutions to the problems I ran across in using paint on nylon. People at the local dog park started handing me their dogs' collars and asking me to paint them. At first the designs were random and mostly geometric. But then a shop became interested in selling my collars and asked for specific designs for the holidays. Twenty years later my designs have sold as far away as United Arab Emerits, Japan and the United Kingdom.

My studio started out as a corner in my garage. It now takes up the entire second floor of my home in rural Vermont. My workbench overlooks an overgrown field that once favored corn, then wildflowers. now I see deer in the evenings and in warm months woodchucks and rabbits. It is a wonderfully peaceful environment to work. I paint  between taking calls from clients. I do not have anyone else working here. Every piece that leaves my studio has been painted by me!
